Project Description
Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge Communication and Interpretive Plan, 2016
Together with designers from The Alchemy of Design, Marie developed a comprehensive strategic communications plan to guide the development of future interpretive exhibits, educational programming, and community outreach efforts at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. The main goal of the interpretive plan was to increase local visitation, especially among the Latinx community, while continuing to successfully serve the refuge’s core audience of birders, naturalists, and nature enthusiasts.
A key part of that goal includes increasing the presence of the refuge beyond its boundaries as part of the Urban Refuge Initiative (URI) by interpretation at URI partner sites, including schoolyard habitats, city parks, as well as other urban locations with captive audiences, such as the McAllen Convention Center, McAllen Library, McAllen International Airport and McAllen Greyhound bus depot.
